I got my drop in kit today for my 05 wide glide and about to install it had a question before getting to far into it. Do I need to drop the the forks all the way out of the triple clamps? I took the fork cap off and looks as if the top triple clamp is holding the spring down.
yes, make hook using a wire hanger. There's a video on there site that walks you through the process.
Cover everything and use masking tape to prevent scratches on the tree/forks/cap. Careful jacking up the bike, just take the wait off the front tire and watch out when popping the cap off. I loosened the cap with the socket then covered it with a shop towel and held on. When cutting the PVC spacer I recommend measuring just a bit over. Then place a piece of sandpaper down on a completely flat surface (workbench) to sand evenly to correct size. Good luck take your time. Clean the threads and be careful when re-installing the caps.
Personally I would pull the forks and give them a thorough cleaning before putting fluid back in, just a little preventative maintenance that is not hard to do at all.
It was changed about 4k miles ago. But, since I'm in there I will change it. Looks like I have to drop the forks anyways to get the top spacer out since it's under the top tree.

Compress the forks once you have the caps off.
Easier to reach.
I never had to pull the tubes when I put them in or when I pulled them out and thew them in the garbage...
Edit: could not set the SAG at all with the Dropin lowering kit. Too stiff, they look cool, but are only meant for a bar hopper...
Take the bars off, unscrew the cap (hold on to them or they will shot up to the ceiling) , just like some one suggestedget a coat hanger bend it into a little hook and pull your old spring out , cut your spacer and drop your new set up in, I've had mine in for two years with no issues.
Thanks 8541hog for the pic so everyone can see how our set up is. I'll give everything a go tomorrow it's way to cold here tonight to be out in the garage even with the space heater.
