It's the Patriot Defender 2-1, really like it so far! It could scrape but I just take it a little easier on that side and haven't yet.....I'm thinking about black 8 or 10" apes next and black out front lower forks and wheels and tops and bottoms of shocks. Any other suggestions??? I can't decide whether or not to leave all the chrome on the motor/trans as is or change out a couple pieces for black...help!
Add Black lower rocker box covers, splitting the chrome top cover and the engine. Black Trees and fork lowers. The break up of the chrome would look nice without to much of each in mass bunches.
I gotcha, yeah I think I need little more black/less chrome on motor area. You mean the cam cover right (I think)?
**Scratch that - are the lower rocker box covers the ring, or 2nd layer on top of head under the rocker covers? Big cover on bottom with small "timing cover" on it is cam cover I'm assuming??**
Now I'm hijacking my own thread....
So black lower rocker cover and black trans cover for the motor!
What all do I need to do to get those off? Remove tank, covers, and work my way down?
OR....think I could tape off everything very carefully and sand down the "lower" rocker covers and hand paint them black so I don't have to disassemble??

rocker box covers, you have top and bottom at the top of the jugs just under the tank. Use the chrome as an advantage to break up the black and visversa with the black breaking up the chrome. If you look at a section and say to yourself, there is to much chrome / black in that area, figure out what little you can change without it becoming over whelming.
Nice. Bike looks great. I wish vertical plates were legal in Ohio. You would think they would be easier to read for the troopers sleeping with their necks bent on the side of the road.
Gotcha - thats what I figured, and thanks Crex! I know what I want to do now, black the lower thin part on top of the jugs and black trans cover - whats the easiest way to go about the rocker covers on top of the jugs? Disassemble it all or think I could do it with them on? If I need to tear into it, can someone that has done this help? thanks!
Good lookin bike.
I say leave the motor chrome alone, its the jewel on the bike, its supposed to shine! Do the wheels, fork lowers, triple trees, headlight visor (looks WAY better black), and rear shocks. Get some black mini or 12" apes, and you'll be gtg!

If you decide to pull the rocker covers and rocker supports, you definitely need to have a HD Service Manual. You can get them electronically now for about $5. After reading the procedures you may find that you need to buy an extra tool or two.
