Santa's elves make them. It's a pretty good gig since they aren't making toys during the summer, which is riding season. Then during the toy making season people don't ride much, so there is little demand for Harley batteries.
Because of elven magic is why they are so pricey......
1. I do not work for Harley.
2. I do not work for the people that make the batteries for Harley.
I purchased an 06 SB in 2012 which had just over 3K miles and still with the original battery. I rode all year with no issues until late summer when a broken ground ring terminal took out my regulator (or that is what I believe did it). Anyway in the process of testing my systems I find out my battery was made in late 05 and for ***** and giggles had it fully tested at batteries plus and HD. Thing is good and gold and still in the bike.
If that's why they are so pricey I will continue to buy them, however I fear as most everything else these days, nothing is made like it used to be.
Deka makes them. I got my replacement from the Battery Mart site. Same battery but cheaper. Only difference is you use their spacer for the side terminal and the battery doesn't say Harley on it.
I ride daily in the desert year-round in north Phoenix. Can't go much more than 1 year for a battery. Battery Mart holds up just as well as Harley at about half the price including shipping.
Just took my Deka battery out of the bike. It was only 7 1/2 years old. Replaced with a Power Sport AGM from Advance Auto we'll see how long this one lasts.

My brother and I both have 2006 Dynas.
I replaced my original about 3 years ago with and Advance battery. I've had to charge it the past 2 years. The stock battery was never on a charger. Had some ECM issues and basically ran the batt down...figured it had a good run so time to replace which is why I bought the Advance one.
My brother replaced his stock one 2 years ago and is on his second Advance battery...he demanded one under warranty when the first one didn't last a year.
Can't say anything bad about those stock batts, but not happy with the Advance ones.
