my 2cents would be that its looks over the benificial air cooling effect..it may deflect "some" air in the right direction but nothing that i could see being noticed

stabilizer link. The Rick Doss chin spoiler like i have does direct air up to the engine but it is probably the most aerodynamic of the lot.. I rode beside a bike once in heavy rain that had one just like mine. You could see the water drops curling upwards just like in a wind tunnel. It probably does not have enough cooling effect to mention though. I also hide my True-Track behind mine.

Reason: more
Mostly cosmetic, however as Squidhead mentioned, it does help to hide/keep clean the stabilizer assembly. I have the True Track and it helps keep it clean.
I was thinking that because they don't hang down like the fangs do they would let more air circulate around the engine. they would still seem to block the air coming up from the tank.
My thinking is anything in front of airflow to the engine will reduce it. Unless it's designed to direct air from another location. But then you are reducing air from that other location.
Since the entire motor is one big block of heat, I'd think any block is not optimal.
That said, it didn't stop me from putting one on my Road King Special... :-)
