I had no idea...
over a year ago, i started making plans to buy a harley ....narrowed it down to a streetbob....i built a 10'X12' storage shed....took the safety course (been riding streetrockets most of my life, but just wanted to finalize things with a license- plus, any discount on insurance in MA is worth it)... and then i started to save.... today, i brought home mystreetbob ....i rode it for the first time(considering the dealers around here won't let you test-drive anything...understandable).... and i realizedthe appeal, 100 yards intothe ride....
....the riding position, the sound, the feeling of power underneath me, the rumble.... you're together with that thing...it feels like it's part of you! ... the damn thing brings you to life....it feels like you're riding a beast, of sorts, under the command of only you ....it awakened senses in me i hadn't been acutely aware of in years!.... and i started to smile
riding one of these things is a veryvisceral experience...it's almost emotional!... and the next time someone asks me "why a harley?" ....i'll just smile, and say, "....if you haven't ridden one, you'll never understand."
For the last two years, my wife had been on me about getting a bike again (I got rid of my last metric crotch a year before my son was born) to get me out of the house and back into something she knew I enjoyed. Now keep in mind I always told myself that I would never get a H-D for a variety of reasons.
I spent about 2 months looking around at all kinds of used bikes tryingto decide what I wanted. Crotch or cruiser was my main topic and I also wanted to buy a bike cash so I was being economically savvy in looking.
Long story short, I had decided it was time to head into cruiser territory so I started eyeing up the Suzuki Boulevard. Nice metric at a nice price and my local HD dealer happened to have a trade in that was in my price range. Well, I went in and checked her out and sat on it and fired it up but something just wasn't right about it. So the sales guy gets me on some bigger toruing metrics and I'm like yeah this is more like it but something is still missing in the equation.
Sales guy sees his opening and says, "just for ***** and giggles lets get you on a used H-D." I'm like dude I don't want to spend that kind of money but what the hell. I tried a few different dynas out and sit on an 05 Supr Glide with Rhinehart pipes and he fires it up real quick. from that moment I was hooked. It had the sound, feel, and attitude I wanted and the rest is history. I didn't buy that particular bike but did end up on a brand newDyna a week later.
My heart still gets all jumpy when I fire mine up and all I can do is think about riding or working on my bike. I have come to find in a short time that Harley peeps are the best out there for so many reasons. It's a community that can't be understood by those who don't have one and can't easily be explained by those who do.
Ride on man..............[sm=smiley16.gif]
Last Sept I saw a 03 SG for sale and was hooked on the looks and the color.
Sat on it and turned it over.
Between the sound, power and nice vibration, something crawled right up my spine..... Adrenoline.
Never the same since........This is a good thing!
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
It is loud, shakes at stop lights, feels like I am riding on a thunder cloud, goes too fast (that what the cop said), makes me feel like I was bitten by something ( some kind of bug).
It takes my hard earned cash........... talk about being taken for a ride.
I used to enjoy winter, before I bought the damned Harley.
Now I only like Spring, Summer, and Autumn.
My Harley is a jealous B!tch, and doesn't like to share me with other women.
My Harley likes to go for long rides in thecountry with me, and always makes me drive.
Damned Dyna, she's cast a spell on me.
