Got a question for any 103ci Dyna owners. I put a 2" tank lift on my ride as soon as I bought it without even riding a full tank. Now my sensor inside the tank is off because of the lift, so now I need to go by my milage and not what the gauge says.
Anyone know what kind of milage your're getting on a full tank?
I may have to take the lift off and ride a tank full out to see.
200 miles would run you right close to EMPTY !!!!!!!!!!!! Out...............
Depending on how heavy you are on the throttle...............
160 - 175 should keep you save, just don't be 50 mile's to the next fuel stop, then you will be doing this.......
2014 Street bob 103ci. No tank lift, I checked the last two fill up's 37 mpg each time, I ride it like I stole it. My factory gage is off. I'm going to fill up at 150 mi. just to be safe.
Harley fuel gauges are a waste of time and energy. Accurate when just filled, and that's as good as it gets. Use your TRIP ODOMETER!!!! THAT does not lie. Start lookin for gas at 150/175 and you'll be OK.
After 12 fill ups, my average is 37.97. Average miles per tank is 147. Some have been more, some slightly less. Most miles I've gone is 172, and that netted me 42mpg
I always fill up until the fuel level is just starting to come over the "lip" in the fill hole, I try to keep it as consistent as possible. My tank is stock, no lift. Factory air cleaner, V&H short shots with standard baffles.
14 Street Bob, charcoal grey (cause grey is faster )

Thanks, I also have the V&H Short Shots...so I'm guessing 150-160, then, to be safe. Now, another issue.....has onyone ever tried to actually bend the gauge? I just don't want to keep looking at the fuel low light from the time I almost pull out of the gas station.
I'm kinda old school. I always, (after break in) , I ride til it stops. Have a 1/2 or 1 gallon fuel with me. When it stops, I make sure I am around some station's, I check the mileage. I always do combined riding, interstate, back roads, and town riding.
This is just a general mileage test. It may make you more comfortable when in a bind.
Why are you using the worthless fuel gauge? Our wide glide low light comes on around 130 and when I get fuel, it never holds but 2 1/2 gallons +-.
106 wide glide= 160
113 super glide= 180
110 street glide= 240
These are my being in a bind and being comfortable mileage.
If I am under a 1/2 tank and stop for anything I get fuel.

All the car manufacturers warn that running a fuel injected engine completely out of fuel is somehow harmful to the system. I would think the same applies to a fuel injected motorcycle engine.
They don't say why. Maybe the high pressure pump depends on fuel for lubrication? Or, running dry gets air into the system?
