Default Factory Riser Damage

So I started to do my handlebar swap yesterday on my 2012 Wide Glide and found this little treasure under the factory risers. Apparently the factory overtightened the snot out of this riser (It was a pain to break loose) and it chewed up the top plate of my triple tree. Wouldn't be a huge deal but my new risers don't cover the chewed up part. Going to hit the dealer up today and see about getting it replaced under warranty - not expecting much. Anybody else have this happen to them?

I wouldn't expect them to cover that. .it was hidden from view by the parts of the bike as purchased. You're removing parts and now it's visible.

Good luck. I hope that they will man up and work with you on replacing it.

Eh hidden from view but still causing damage by improper installation. If I went to drain my oil and metal shavings started pouring out because something was improperly installed its my fault for draining the oil?

The bike was bought brand new as such I should be able to take off any cover or part and not see damage caused by something as simple as over-torquing a bolt.

And on the other hand I've had the bike for 15 months plenty of time for a customer to mess around and damage something.

So I can see it both ways.

And another question...If I would have brought it in to the dealer and paid them to do the bar swap, let them find the problem, would they say the same thing?

I hit two local dealerships on the way home tonight the first told me to buff it out and the second as soon as I told him I didn't buy it from there told me to take it the dealer I bought it from - only a couple hundred miles. Which I find to be the most ironic response since dealers always push the warranty and how it applies to any dealer e.g. If you break down in the middle of a roadtrip you can take it to the closest dealer and they will honor your warranty.

So it looks like I will spend the rest of my evening researching how to polish aluminum (Top of the tree is $280 from the dealer, haven,t looked elsewhere yet).

It's hard to tell from the photo just how bad it is, but based on your postings, Im assuming it is bugging you.
Being the bike is from 2012 and there is no proof of who, when the damage occurred - I would first pull it and try to polish it out to see if you can get it to where it doesn't bug you - otherwise I'd search around the internet - like Surdyke or someplace around for a new part.
We all hate it when our scoots get marked up as it seems 100% more noticeable to us than anyone else - I say don't sweat the small stuff.
