...yeah, you can do it with a paper clip or a jewelers screwdriver...you can also muck it up that way. Professionals use the correct tool for the job...amateurs use just whatever is cheap and handy. Just say'n...

This and paying someone $125 bucks an hour is a pretty good incentive for me to buy the right tools and learn to do stuff like this...

Once upon a time I made a decent living fixing things like this that folks mucked up because someone told them that they could use a paper clip...

Thanks for all the help. I have used the pick sets and small screwdrivers in the past. Most recently on my old Jeep and it worked okay, but still messed up a few wires a little. So with this project I want to do it right especially if the tool isn't too bad of a price, and considering the cost of Harley parts if I really screw it up. I certainly don't want to have to pay someone like skinman to fix my screw ups. No offense meant, just hate paying to fix my messes and explaining to a mechanic how in the hell I got things that messed up.

You usually don't have to explain, nashspu...it is pretty obvious most of the time.

There are many different removal tools depending on the connector and contact...prices range from less than $10 up.

And, although I still have the tools, I don't make a living doing that anymore, I do it for beer...now I just teach math to tweens...it is a lot less income but much more satisfying.

Skinman - sounds like a good math problem for your students. If Bob is dumb and tries to do his wiring with a bobby pin instead of buying the right tool for the job, how much will it cost him to have someone fix it? Now evaluate the opportunity cost of each option using the current cost of the right tool and labor cost in beer versus the Harley certified mechanic's labor price. haha a quality life lesson and some math and economics skills

been following your thread here with plenty of amusement tossed into it.

lotsa scare tactics, and old wives tales.

I might have missed it - which connector on your bars wiring?

I'm gonna guess - Deutsch. (or are they Molex??)

from your posting above, sounds like you've drunk the koolaid.
