Pipes and an ECM for many, if not all, of the reasons stated above. Loud pipes do save lives. Apes just show of and provide air flow to your pits.

Since you have Cycle Shack mufflers now, I doubt you're going to getmuch of aperformance improvement from either of your V&H choices. Especially the Shortshots.
I know an air cleaner and some kind of FI tuner aren't on your list, but that's what I'd do first. I can't imagine why anyone would want apes, but that's just me.

Actually, a tuner is on my list but I neglected to mention it in my intial post. I am likely to do the A/C also since I am going to save a few bucks if I decide on the SHort Shots. And apes look cool.................lol.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I would have to also vote for the pipe upgrade

Just my opinion.

If I recall correctly, V&H recommends their pipes to be used only if you upgrade the air cleaner as well, so add around $100 for a Ness Big Sucker and go with the pipes. Regarding the noise levels, I would say my Big Shots are louder than the bikes I know of with Short Shots.

Oh, and one more thing. The wife just got a nice windfall in her paycheck this week. Now I just have to figure out how to weasel some of it out of her for the new set up. I made my first attempt tonite and she responded with "didn't I just buy you those slip-ons for your birthday?".
