I'm in the market for a used superglide, which will be my first Harley. I've talked to a dealer who has a 2005 with Screaming Eagle II pipes. The dealer is a 50 mile drive from me so I would like to get an idea how loud these pipes are before making the trip. My main concern is waking up neighbours (and my wife) at 6:00 in the morning everyday. I live in an older urban area where the houses are densely packed together.
they won't crack the glass of your neighbors house. They are for sure louder than stock, but they aren't anything like straight pipes
I lived in a high density 'hood for a while as well and I didn't have anyone complain about my pipes. As long as you take it easy out of the 'hood, they are pretty tame.
If you whip the throttle and take the bike to 5000 rpms in first gear, you will wake folks and **** them off.
The older SEII slip-ons (not EPA approved) will likely wake up your wife. The newer ones are much more mellow.
Either way - if this is your only concern - I'm sure you can get a stock set of slip-ons on ebay for very short money.
I have them, and I am pretty much agreeable to what everyone else has said. There are much louder pipes....and there are much quieter (stock). There is no comparison to stock though. Your neighbors will definitely hear them...how annoying they are really depends on how sensitive their ears are. At idle, they're certainly not ridiculous...and shouldn't be too offensive. If you really crack it, you might **** people off.
It's a tough call....really, it depends on your neighbors.
Good luck
For sure louder then stock but I have them on mine and I live in a "nice quiet little sub. " and no one has ever said a word to me. I leave at 6:00 or 7:00am and I just don't get on it until I'm out on the main road.
I am dealing with the same issue, the bike I have has V & H stagered pipes. I live in a apartment complex on a private drive. There are about 4 other apartments on this same private drive. My bike hasn't arrived yet so I don't know how loud it is. I am sure I will have some pissed off neighbors when I leave at 6:30 am. That's just part of living where I live, your neighbors need to just deal with it. Be as considerate as you can but other than that its what it is.
I'm assuming the baffles are in. That actually makes quite a bit of difference.
I have SEII slipons on my 06. IF you have the baffles in it's just like everyone else said.
It depends on how you are driving and how much your neighbors will tolerate you. In the winter,
I leave the garage door shut while I warm up. I regularly ask my neighbors if i'm buggin them and they always say no.
Here's a friendly little neighborhood tip:
"Generally speaking 1 out of 5 homeowners around you will be an A-hole.
To find out who it is just stand at your front porch and watch your neighbors.
If they all seem pretty nice....then you're the A-hole."
