Hey guys been a while! Well two problems I have questions about that I DO NOT think are related, just a coincidence. 2005 Dyna FXDCI, first question is I just rolled over 5000 miles and cranked my bike tonight. Seemed a little louder as far as engine noise so shut it down right away and checked. Oil didn't register on stIck and shined a light down in there and can see it barely in bottom. So it's at least a quart low! This happen to anyone else? secondly, and like I said not related because this is just a drop of oil literally but my primary case is a little "oil wet" on the bottom between the cover so it looks like the gasket needs to be replaced right? Also what is the gasket between the primary and the main housing? I thinkthat needs replaced too . Thanks!
Just had same problem actually! It was because a seal was blown between the crankcase and the primary which was making the oil dump into the primary.
To check just put on a lift or keep level and SLOWLY take off the primary cover. If it is so then it will start oozing out of there when the bike is level. Careful because there were almost 4 quarts in mind and it just practically exploded oil all over the place because it wasn't expected.

would it not be a better idea to drain the oil out first? Anything over 1 qt does not belong.
Looks like this. If it's bad, you may have lost the spline on the alternator rotor. The compensator spring will drive it for a while. However all the metal usually migrates back there and gets it. Also will see a crap load on the magnet.

I would check the primary. If the level looks ok add or change engine oil and keep an eye on it. Have you checked the oil enough to rule out it using oil?
