i fixed my rear injector lo code by putting in a new system relay (thanks google and hdforums) but can someone explain to me what a lo rear injector would do? like, what's the actual problem? or what would it cause?
all the googling i have done has just told me how to fix it, not what it actually is...

Nothing to do with this post, but did you ever figure out your over heating issue's ???????
Been reading my 2012 Electrical Diagnostic Manual, so thinking your code would be P0264: Fuel Injector low/open(rear). Sound like a loss of 12V power to the rear fuel injector.
Not an electrical guru, that's why I needed this manual!
What would loss of power to a rear injector do, miss a few squirts, not put the right amount of fuel in or at the wrong time? Then what might happen...
I'm just trying to understand if it was a problem, and what I've actually fixed!!

Didn't get to try a different map this weekend and it's still set at 350... On Saturday I got the warning light in heavy traffic same as last week but had a spot to pull over for a few minutes. Replaced the relay on Sunday, not sure if that'll make any real difference but the code isn't showing up... I'll try different map this week/weekend

turns out it's not fixed at all, just went for a ride and the engine light is coming on frequently, the only code is P0263, whenever I clear it it comes right back... any help on what to try next? All the previous posts suggests a bad connection or broken wire?
My HD Elec book does not have a P0263, but as stated before sounds like a P0264 in my 2012 manual.
Possible Causes: Rear fuel injector malfunction
ECM malfunction
Open signal circuit
Open power circuit
Basically the procedures call for checking the continuity at different locations with special tools, and fixing bad wiring or replacing the rear fuel injector or replacing the ECM.
You could check out your wiring as best you can and/or replace the rear fuel injector and see. I do think this issue could be associated to the overheat and bad starting - probably not a good idea to ride until fixed. Might be worth it to let a HD shop fix it for you because they have all the tools to locate the problem that most of us do not have.
i just replaced the ecm with a tmax... maybe it's worth plugging the old one and and seeing if this goes away.
thinking about the work i just had done (big bore, tmax, cams etc) i think it's a possibility my indy might have pinched a wire on the install - i have a friend that's a good electrician i'll see if he's got an hour to help me poke around before i wheel it back to the shop
