Guys,

Stock motor bike, Harley Stage 1 download, heavy breather A/C, Python Staggered duals otherwise 100% stock. Started it yesterday (75 degrees out) after sitting in lot for 30mins and she turned over a bunch then coughed smoke out of the air cleaner. This happens once in a while, what the hell causes it? Bike runs fine after just annoying.

Freaked me out the first time, a long time ago. There is no special cure except how you time your starting. It is a full stage I so here is my suggestion unless you already do this. Turn on the key and kill switch in neutral and the second you hear your pump come on hit the start button. I've been doing this for years. This is especially good when you just stop and go for gas and she is still hot.

PS hold that button till she starts!

 

Might be my issue I always wait to see the check engine light go out (4-5secs tops) then start. I will try starting it quicker and see if that helps.

I practically guarantee it. there is not one HD tek who waits to see that light go out. Only the sales people wh have to cover their butts!

 

Some of your problems might be that you have just the dealer download. That doesn't do anything other than raise the rev limiter a bit. Even just adding some Xieds would probably help but a proper tuner is likely the real answer.
