i'm starting to think something might be wrong, around 90 mph through turns my bike starts a death wobble, my buddies say it looks like im going down around every turn. its weird cuz i've pretty much gotten used to it, but i would like to minimize or fix it. is it maybe because i have to much weight in the rear (ie saddle bags full of stuff)?
Check your tire pressure first. This has a big effect on UN wanted oscillations . Are your Rear shocks set exactly the same? Do you have them firm? Are your motor mounts good? Have you checked your "fall away", neck bearings. Wheel bearings good? Are you running Apes?
All of these things contribute to death wobble. I had the same problem through high speed sweepers. I checked & or fixed these things & they all helped. I had the stock fxdb apes, I think that was a large contribution to my wobble. I think they flex when you put a lot of leverage on them. Tbars fixed that 😃
Gadianton3 good call i'll check all those. Ya i'm running 12 in tbars, i noticed if i dont hang on with as much weight the wobbles arent as bad. As far as the motor mounts and suspension, i've never checked. Runnin a streetbob btw
All I can speak for is my experience; had wobbles when I was cornering hard(not 90 mph!), did my homework and installed the True Track stabilizers - no more wobbles.
+1 on the bars! As soon as I got rid of the factory apes, and installed my riser/bar combo, most of the wobble was completely gone. Eventually will do a true track or sputhe..and suspension mods, as money allows.
In addition to the above recommendations I would suggest replacing your fork oil... make sure you get the same amount in each tube. Secondly, get rid of the crap Dunlops and put some decent rubber on. Those two changes corrected the death wobble on my Sportster AFTER I tried all the other fixes which one would normally approach this problem with.
I had the same issue 2 weeks ago...
Took it to my local mechanic and he told me once he raised it on the jack, my rear tire 'wobbled'. Turns out most if not all my rear spokes sprung loose. Had the dealer pick it up yesterday to adjust/repair under my warranty.
