I have had my bolt either way...the last time I put it on from the exhaust side cause it was easier to line up the caliper first then shove the axle all the way through.
I'm with you guys and that is what I have been saying since the first or second post, but it seems our OP's exhaust bracket blocks his wheel from dropping. Since then a bunch of guys have chime in saying to switch his axle around inverted.
Need a pic from twigster the OP of this thread.

Some are missing the point. The question was not how to remove the rear axle but would there be any adverse affects in running the axle in from the other side.

Thanks for the replies. Bottom line is....no. So I put the bike back together and everything works fine. For me, this chapter is closed.

Of course, no E-clip retainer now, but the cover should serve that function.

Whoa! Pretty sure I do not agree with this. No offense, but I would not do that just to use a certain style of axle covers.

All this is straight out of the 2008 manual. That book is one of the best tools I have bought.

++ What he said!

That's the way to do it

Take note of what? How does that relate to what I said? Is that some sort of failure in the pics?

Apologies, Sorry my mistake
I actually meant to quote PKellyMc, in the error of his ways, by removing the groove that the safety clip should sit in.
