I'm looking for an affordable 13 inch shock to put on the rear of my 06 Street Bob. I was looking at the 12.6 inch 412 but after doing some researching it seems like the 13 inch stiletto would not be a bad option. Anyone ever done this? What are the pros and cons? I know people have put dyna shocks on sporsters with much success, I wonder how the stilettos would be on a dyna? They look awesome....ready for some opinions...
That was my original thought, but I had heard the mounting angle was different, which had a lot do with how much weight a shock could handle.....Maybe someone from progressive will chime in.....
I was thinking the same for my 2006 FXDI. I talked to the Burly rep at a show and he said that the Dyna is much too heavy for the stilettos and recommended the Progressive 444.
Search around the internet. I was able to find a new pair of chrome 13" Progressive 440-4039C's from a dealer on ebay for $330 a few months ago and am pleased with them. You might also check into Hagon shocks. Decent reputation and price.
Weight of bike certainly matters. Eight years ago I bought a pair of Works shocks made for a Dyna and installed them on the Sportster I had. So stiff they were unrideable and I ended up selling them at a loss after learning Works wanted several hundred dollars to respring them (now wish I'd kept them but who knew I'd get a Dyna 7 years later.)
