As with many things, the owner can experiment with certain things and knows their own limitations. After all is said and done, there are certain things that can be accomplished and others that cannot. No body here mentioned the hard coating on the factory windshield and what it is worth to you. I'm quite sure that you can make the windshield but lets not forget that if you happen to make a mistake, then the cost of the lexan is down the tubes and you get the chance to start over again. I feel it would be easier and more professional to just buy the replacement shield from either the dealer or aftermarket supplier and bolt it on so you can spend your time riding, not trying to accomplish something that may work instead of something that would work. I'm not trying to discourage you but just consider all the costs involved including a mistake here before the replacement costs you more than a new front end. JMHO

Nice write up by Jackyl. My local glass co cuts mine for $40.00. The rest is easy. This isn't rocket science, and it's kind of fun to do it yourself.

Look in the phone book for a Regal Plastics store in your area, they have done several for my friends and the shields look like factory and for something like 48.00 for a clear and a few more for the smoked and amber. At least, here in Shreveport it is that way, look and see!!----jack

Anyway in my infinite wisdom - trying to be cheap and save money - I bought a used HDdetachable off ebay. When it arrived, I noticed it had been cut down and the coating was flaking off. The hardware on the other hand is in great shape. I settled the matter with the seller and kept the windshield for a reasonable price. What I want to do now is replace the lexan. HD wants $ 140 for a replacement windshield, so I called our local glass shops here hoping to find someone that could cut me a new one. To my surprise no one does it. One shop said they could do it for 100 bucks, but they said the edges would not be smooth. Apparently the professional windshield manufacturers fire polish the edges, which creates a smooth edge- and this local shop said they didn't have the tools/process to do it.

So, I'm looking for alternatives. What say ya'll??
Look up a place called Regal Plastics, they do it and they charged me 68.00 last time. I took them mine and they duplicated it. So you could draw an outline (adding back the cut-off piece) and take them the template. remember to put in all the mounting holes so all you have to do is re-mount it when they finish

MB.... here is my thread on exactly that project.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...ight-done.html

The one thing I didn't add in to the thread, was that I did take my propane torch and run it down the edges... ever so lightly.. after all the sanding and smoothing.
