My local chopper shop (non hd) told me about a thing they do where I could trade my parts for chromed parts. for example, lower fork sliders... they would remove my stock sliders and install the fork sliders that were stock like mine that have been sent to be chromed. they told me 200 installed. Is that a good idea? Or am I setting myself up for some crappy parts that get pitted within 2 months of riding. I'm wondering if for example i get a primary from them that is chromed, what kind of quality I'll get.. so if anyone has done that sort of thing and it has worked out well for them let me know.

I did that with my hand controls (brake/clutch levers, master cylynder, etc). The stuff has been on my bike for two seasons now and still looks great.

I think there are a couple things to consider... first of which, do you trust your source. if you do, ask him the same questions.

Folks out there doing this to provide a valuable service are going to use good used parts, do good prep work, and do good finish work. As long as you aren't dealing with a scammer trying to make a quick buck, I think you will end up with something you will be satisfied with.

I'm willing to bet everyone here will agree, chances are good it will be better chrome than you will get from HD.

I know there are several places that do this....almost all parts.

Some deal even in wheels....i.e. you can send them your stock wheels plus deposit, they send you the new identical wheels in generally a 3x plate then refund your deposit once they get your shipped stock wheels in hand.

As was said, know who you are dealing with.
