Default Carb issues

I have a 2000 LR. Used a Genuine James kit to rebuild the carb. The bike starts fine and idles fine but when I get on the throttle it dies. Only way I can get on the throttle is if I leave the enricher out, and then I can only do it once. Where did I mess up?
Thanks, Mike

I should say that I rebuilt the carb because I lost my acceleration and had difficulty maintaining highway speeds when going up slight hills.

Thanks

I's whip the top off again and check you didn't snag the diaphragm during reassembly.

Default carb issue

Also check for pinholes in the diaphram. Is the accelerator pump squirting fuel as it should?

Did you replace the main jet? I just rebuilt the CV on an older Sportster that had the same problem an your original (maintaining speed). Turned out the main jet had somehow accumulated enough gunk to restrict full fuel flow. Doesn't take much to obstruct enough to matter. Don't bother trying to clean it. They're only a couple of bucks. Put in a new one of the right size.

Chances are, though, it's what the previous poster suggested. Pinched diaphragm or pin holes.

Didn't see any pin holes (holding it up to the light method and yes, accelerator nozzle was shooting out gas (never realized just how much gas shoots out).

I did not replace the jets, but they were clean (probably should have replaced though).

While the bike is idling and the air cleaner off so that you see the carb throat, turn the throttle and notice if the slide is going up to allow more air and fuel. How many turns do you have the idle mix screw turned out? start out at about 2-2 1/2 turns.
