Went to buy a new battery for my 2009 XL1200L and was looking for something with a little higher AH rating than 12Ah, and a CCA of around 220 or so. What I think I really wanted was a "Motobatt" MBYZ16hd, but none to be found locally. I hate ordering anything so I asked for a good replacement. Guy told me to go with an "X2Power" lightweight lithium. It's 12v, 14Ah, 240cca and only about 1 1/2 pounds. I'm not familiar with lithium batteries and I've heard some bad stories about them in the past but he assured me all that is in the past. He says only thing unique to them today, assuming the bike's charging system is working as designed, is that they require a special charger if ever they need charging. The more I think about it the more concerned I get. I like the lightweight, the high cca, but don't want to blow my bike up. What say you guys? Should I install it tomorrow, or take it back and get a lead acid AGM? Thanks and regards, Joe.
So tell me if found a problem. I'm putting one in my 99 Fatboy tomorrow.
Sorry man, since no one had any advice I just took it back and exchanged it for an AGM. A few dollars cheaper but money was never the issue. I just wasn't sure about the lithium and nobody else seemed to be sure either.
Regards, Joe
