I have a 2001 Ultra. I have been having a electrical problem for a while. My bike shuts down. When this happens the lights go out and the engine dies. The tac and speedo stay where ever they were when it shuts down. After sitting for a while it may start back up. I read about the circuit breaker problem and replaced it with a fuse. I checked all connections and after replacing the breaker with a fuse rode the bike for 3000 miles with no further problems. Last week I changed my oil. The problem has returned. It left me in the middle of the freeway and I had to get it towed home. Any suggestions? I have talked to the dealers and they have no clue. They have told me the problem is with my Power Commander. Power commander says no chance of these symptoms being caused by their product. I have heard of other with this type of problem, Any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks JP
Unplug the PC and see if the problem continues. I had one on my 01 Ultra and bike died running down the highway, seems the ECM fuse had blown and PC had quit. Sent PC in to be tested and they told me it was fried as well. Sent me a new one ( at cost) but was afraid to use it, so I put an S&S VFI ECM on it.
H-D missed the real reason of the shut down and only after the recall went out to put in a fuse they found out about it. One of the connectors to the circuit breaker had a bad crimp and actually got so hot it shut off the breaker from heat. Check the connectors to the fuse and see if one is getting hot. It gets hot because it's a major source of resistance. It might even look a little burnt or datk at the wire insulation/connector
I just went through this. I did the maxi fuse over a year ago and never had another issue. I changed my oil, relocated the filter and the bike wouldn't start. I did tweek the crank sensor with the filter wrench. I had to replace it. Since you have the fuse mod I'll bet it's the crankshaft sensor.

If you had the circuit breaker turning off and the fuse install fixed it, you have a bad connection at one of the terminal crimps and should look at them. The bad one will practically burn your finger with the bike running.
