Strange starting problem
Hello folks I am having a strange problem with my 2006 softail Deluxe. when I go to start the bike the starter engages and the bike starts to turn over I hear this electrical crackling sound kind of sounds like when you pull a plug wire when the bike running kind of a popping. I thought perhaps it was a plug wire but they look good. The bike is garage kept and has only 7730 miles on it. Bike seems to run fine when running. and engine light comes on for a few seconds after starting.
I need to address this as I do not want to get stranded as I am disabled and will not be able to push this bike more than a block or so. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

check you battery cables , specifically the grounds. you may have one slightly loose and arcing under the high amp load of starting but tight enough to start (so far) and run the bike. If they are clean and tight you may also want to look at the contacts on the starter solenoid for evidence of arcing.

Thanks... all of that looks ok. The battery is 4 years old and has been on a battery tender...had the battery checked out and had a load test done . The guy said it was ok but a bit weak,,,, so I have one on order.

Make sure you check both ends of the cables. Try starting the bike at night, seat and side covers off, with no lights on to see if anything is sparking. Have someone watch as you crank it. You are very lucky to get 4 years on a battery in Florida. Year and model of the bike?
