2000 Softail Deuce with 2004 Motor Trike conversion, Champion reverse gear.
When putting the bike away last fall for winter and backing it up the bike stalled. Tried to restart, bike neutral light was on and I had the clutch pulled in because it still might have been in reverse. As I pressed the start button all the lights on the bike dimmed and the starter did not work. I have no idea what went wrong, a short, bad ground, jammed starter or gears even though I had the clutch pulled in. Hoping for an easy solution as the trike is in the back of my barn in a very tight area and impossible to tow out of where it is. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
Didn't realize you posted in another area, but the battery has to be the first variable you have to look at. You didn't say how old it is or if you keep it on a tender, but it sounds like it's bad. Get it charged up and tested.
Battery is two years old this spring, stored inside in winter and is put on a battery tender every month. Always shows slight discharge but enough to start bike.
A battery tender is meant to be kept on the battery through the winter. A tender and charger are not the same think. If you were putting the battery on a charger every month that's different.
I still think you should get it fully charged and test it. Also make sure the cables at the battery and ground are clean and tight. If that all checks out, then go from there.
