Default Starting problems

2000 Softail Deuce with 2004 Motor Trike conversion, Champion reverse gear.
When putting the bike away last fall for winter and backing it up the bike stalled. Tried to restart, bike neutral light was on and I had the clutch pulled in because it still might have been in reverse. As I pressed the start button all the lights on the bike dimmed and the starter did not work. I have no idea what went wrong, a short, bad ground, jammed starter or gears even though I had the clutch pulled in. Hoping for an easy solution as the trike is in the back of my barn in a very tight area and impossible to tow out of where it is. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

The battery is always the first place to look. From what you say it sounds like it's bad.

Battery is two years old in spring and removed from bike for winter and store in heated area. I put the battery tender on once a month and it shows slight discharge but enough to start the bike.

If you have the battery out, take it to Walmart or other auto place and have it load tested. Just because it has good charge/volts does not mean it has enough starting amps. Free to check normally, then go from there.

Mine tested good at Auto Zone, so I took it to the dealer, their test can take up to 2-3 hours, I didn't make it to the door before they called me back, it was bad. Test was free.
Good luck.
