I have a '09 Ultra with 25k on the clock, battery
maintained and on tender at regular intervals.
Lately it has had a second delay before starting.
I can hit the start button, it will engage, delay for
almost a second and then go ahead and crank and
start right up. I have checked the connections,
removed the cables and cleaned all connectors
and reinstalled. I have searched the forum and was
not able to find info about any others having this
situation. I am feeling like it will be a battery issue
after all, I am expecting to have the early warning
sign of the radio clock to reset when the starter
is engaged but that has yet to happen.
I am one of those guys that plugs in the Batt Tender EACH time I park it in the garage - My bike was born on 2/04 = changed out the battery May of 10 ONLY because I was heading Coast to Coast - battery was fine but getting old.
With that said - are you starting your bike in N or in gear with the clutch pulled in??
if in N - then just go on with life and ride OR had a dealer check it out...
If you are starting in gear with clutch pulled in - that does make the starter work a little harder.
unless you have a way to really check the battery - no telling what is going one??
OK I would take a look at your solenoid contact plate. By chance did you over tighten the positive connection at the starter. If that stud rotates then the solenoid wont get full voltage.
If you have security on your bike try changing the battery in your Key fob. I have a 09 SG and had a similar issue. I changed the batter and no problems with delay since. A few months later I did have to change the starter battery but it was more of a starter drag because after lighting a cig I left my lights on and the battery never recovered.. I'd try the fob first the battery is just a few bucks.

this sounds like the problem to me also...if the solenoid contact plate is scarred and burned it will make the starter take longer to pull in and start cranking...eventually if not fixed it will stop cranking over...
