Headlight/generator issue
Headlight works sometimes, sometimes not.....changed generator, still same issue with headlight, and now when bike is OFF, generator light stays on 🤣, gotta disconnect battery to make it go off....1976 sportster xlh

stock system? mechanical or electronic VR?
the generator has nothing to do with the headlight.
if you have the three position ign sw, it is a good starting point
off is off
run is run
lights is lights and if the sw is snafu'd, lights will not work
the gen lamp is as follows:
power from batt>ign sw>acc circuit which feeds the gen light>power through bulb to arm terminal of gen (will be connected at VR)>power grounds through gen negative brush and lamp lights up
with engine running, gen output exceeds batt voltage>ground is lost and lamp goes out.
if the light stays on, short to power or ign sw. not breaking contacts.
