I have an 06 XL1200C my brake lights stay on so I don't know if the tail lights are working or not when I pull the hand brake lever the rear lights flicker just a little I'm assuming they are working backwards no rear turn signals no horn anyone have any ideas ?
Have you checked for any blown fuses, loose or disconnected electrical connectors or ground wire connections? Front signals work still? Any recent changes or modifications to the bike?
Sounds like theres some wiring no longer connected as it should be - a broken wire(s) can have the same effect as a blown fuse as both open the circuit. A poor/bad/loose/broken ground connection can also have the same effect as well. Let us know what you find.
My right switches recently shorted out, I ended up having to replace 3 fuses I replaced the switches on both sides just as a precaution so there wouldn't be any more surprises that's when I started having these electrical issues.
Easy to get wires crossed in the switch housings.
Disconnect both hand controls and see if the rear brake switch works as it should. At connector 22B on the right hand controls, jumper 1 to 5 and see if the turn signal works, then 1 -2 and see if the brake light works. Same with Left hand control 1-5 to see if turn signal works. For headlamp jump BE to Y or W.
Ohm out the switches 22A and 24A, you should not have continuity between 1-2 or 1-5 at 22 or 1-5 at 24.
I checked the wiring again all the wires are connected correctly by color code thank goodness for that, I disconnected the CDI/ignition module and the horn started working both rear turn signals started working but still having a problem with the tail light and brake light as I said yesterday it seems like they are backwards
I did do some modifications I put a set of ape hangers on it and did the extended cables including wiring, my profession is mechanic did it for more than 50 years this is my first time working on a Harley
I disconnected the wires for the starter switch front brake light and turn signal when I turned on the key the brake light was still on along with the rear turn lights the only difference is the turn signals are working
