Default Fast blinking problem

Hey guys!

I’m currently working on an issue on my 2010 Dyna Wide Glide. I have had a little crash recently and needed to change blinkers on left side and blinker switch on a right side.

Before crash I’ve had this setup:

Front left and right: 32/3W dual filament
Rear left and right: 9-15V, 21W Max 3in1 Harley Led

After crash I changed front bulbs to 21/5W and changed rear left 3in1 blinker to a new one.

Old front bulb

Old front bulb 2

New bulbs

Rear led signal

Now situation looks like this: when I hit right switch the blinker goes at normal rate. I can do it as many times as I want and it goes normal rate. But as soon as I use left one (which works as it should) even once, the right one goes crazy after 3 blinks and starts blinking rapidly.

The only thing I can do to reset it is pull out the battery and then plug it back. Then it goes the same as stated above.

Also when I unplug any of left blinkers (front or rear) the right one works fine, no matter of left usage. When both blinkers work simultaneously their rate is proper.

I’ve tried to change bulbs on sides, unplugging each of blinkers and resetting battery, looked for shorts on a wires (removed covers, pulled them out of handlebars).

I am starting to lose my mind, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The only time I've had "fast blinking", it was the flasher inside the headlight bucket needing to be replaced.

Late model Harley's that have a BCM computer are able to compensate for lower resistance changes . Older bikes without a BCM require inline resistors to make up for loss if LED is used.

The signal light/alarm/bank angle module in older bikes thinks you have a burnt out bulb. If you have a BCM, think procedure is in owners manual. Goes like do emergency flashers, then individual one the blinker.

What you have is very common and if you do advance search on here, you will get your fix.

I do not have BCM, at least that's what I think and I don't see this module in my manual. Its 2010 Dyna, think it's too old for that.

The only thing that wonders me is that they used to be working fine before even though I've had same rear led blinkers as I do now. I've changed left one to theoretically the same, and now opposite site blinks faster and it requires resistor... Bit odd tho

I am going to buy one today and see if that helps, thanks for your help!

Must not understand your first post. Appears to me you replaced bulbs with less flasher watts? More in running light.

Yep, I did. And at first I ran one bulb 32/3 (old one) and second 25/5. You think this could cause the problem?

Not 100% sure even which way resistance went with original to your new bulb.

Your asking the wrong person what that change did. From what you said , what has happened, that to me would say it's the cause.

I'm still wondering why you said what you did in first post and then said you didn't change anything.

I would put the same rating bulbs in. I have seen non OEM LED tail lights not work with new systems with the BCM. Are you sure the rear LED is exactly the same part number as the old? Does it have a built in resistor or one been added so it worked with your old bike.

If you must run the front different, you need to check resistance of what worked and compare it to the new and put proper resistance in.

I mean I've changed the tail blinker, but to one that seemed to be the same.

SOLUTION

I've done some checking and it turned out that when I connected the old (one I've got before the crash) 3 in 1 blinker on the rear, problem disappeared. I think that either the guy who told me that the rear blinker he is seling me is original tricked me, or the blinker is indeed original but from another model or something and the ECM goes crazy since the resistances on both sides are diferent. Anyways, need to buy another rear led (and now make sure it matches) or instal resistors on both sides.

Thanks a lot for your help guys!
