Default Diagnostic Cable Splitter

Not this particular one, just a link so you can see the idea. Pros and cons of using something like it inline to power other accessories? If so better product ideas?

Hey Mick, I have a 2021 Road Glide and use the Denali CanSmart, aka ezCan, to control 2 sets of Clearwater LED lights. I mounted the Erica's just above the turn signals and the Darlas down by the fender mount.

The CanSmart hooks up to the battery and to the Data Link Connector, it has 4 circuits and I use two circuits to control the Ericas, and one circuit to control the Darla's.

I can program the unit by hooking up a computer to it, or just using the odometer button. I have mine set to 25% output on low beam and 75% on high beam. I also have the Erica's set, so the corresponding side turns off when the turn signal is on so the bright led doesn't wash out the turn signal.

All the unit is doing is monitoring the signal from the can buss and when it sees the turn signal, Hi or low beam change, it changes the output.

A splitter just allows another place to connect the Digi Tech or another accessory.

What is the intended use? Heated gear? Charge phone? KC Daylighters?

Currently the handlebar cigar lighter is plugged into the diagnostic plug for power. I use it as a USB charging port.

When I want to use the tuner (V&H Fuelpak) I unplug the lighter and plug the tuner. The splitter would allow both to be used simultaneously.

The rep at Revzilla says no problem. The V&H folks say they've never done it.

Looking to see if any here have done so with what result.

HD make a similar cable so that is a way they prefer as well.

The con might be that at that plug there is a switched and a non switch power feed. You might pick the wrong one and return to a flat battery!

I am now in Captain Obvious mode. Duh.

Since there is an accessory plug, where currently the heated seat is powered, why not look for a splitter for that. May have been what Vernal was trying to tell me..

No, I was hung up on the DLC when I saw the ezCan reference. I'm with Revzilla, I don't think it would affect the tuner as you're only using the accessory power and ground.

I don't know what bike you have but if it's a touring bike there are a couple other choices too. Connector 299 upper right side under the fairing or 325 under the right side cover. Both are switched coming from the P&A relay.

Vernal:
Road King, no faring.

Thanks for taking time to do that research and write up. It may be of good use for others. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Maybe look into something like a power distribution module.
