Default Wiring diagram, KICKSTART ONLY, Softail ‘87

Hello,

My bike is a ‘87 Softail FXSTC, CV40 Keihin carb.
I will make it KICKSTART ONLY with a very simple wiring:no speedometer, no horn, no power
relays -only toggle switches, stock charging system, 12V & 4 amps battery (understood is enough for kickstart only).
The simplified new wiring diagram will have three circuits:
1. IGNITION
, (Dyna S, single fire) via toggle switch 1.
2. LIGHTS
, via toggle switch 2.
3. Stock charging system
.

I would have few questions, please:

A.What are your thoughts about this simple wiring, will it work?
B.Regarding IGNITION circuit, what isthe current drawn by the two coils, just to make sure 10 amps fuse isok?
C.Arethefusescorrectlydimensionedandplaced, especiallythe 30 amps fuse placed in section BC?

Thank you in advance
Marcel

Get yourself an older type ignition switch, they have two positions, Ignition and Lights. This way you can control both with one switch, the toggle for the lights is unnecessary. Good luck.

Maybe better to just wire the OEM switch to work with the new wiring layout.

Most aftermarket switches are junk, but the OEM switch for the `87 is still available, a much more reliable unit.

Thanks for the recomandation. I choose the toggle switches because I like their simplicity and old school look of them. I will pay attention and hope to find good ones on the market, not chinese ones.

You probably want to add a brake light switch.

Add:

I'd also add a ground wire from the forks to the frame and one from the taillight to the frame. Turn Signals need good grounds also..

Of course, I will have a brake light switch, is just not shown on the diagram.
Also, I will ground all together, frame, front forks and also rear swingarm if the signals will be mounted on it.
Thanks
