I`m new here and thanks for letting me join this forum. I own a 1998 Road King. The other day I wanted to go out for a ride but the bike wouldn't start. When pushing on the start switch I noticed that my throttle cable was hot and started to smoke. For s**ts and giggles I put a volt meter on the throttle cable while turning over the motor. It jumped up to 8 volts before I let go of the switch. I know that is not supposed to happen. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
You probably have a faulty ground connection on the engine and the throttle cable is doing some of the grounding when you crank the engine. Check and tighten all of the engine grounda and your problem will probably be solved.
