My problem started when a friend of mine tried to jump my bike(09 FXCWC). Bike started but my stock speedo now had no function. I bought a new one knowing I could do the work myself, but have encountered a problem.
The new speedo wouldn't program. Figured out that it won't program with the old one attached. Hooked the old back up, but since it's fried, the bike doesn't recognize it. The programming process seems to start, but the speedo just lights up for a moment then goes off.
Dealers only solution was "bring it in," but I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to. Anyone else seen this problem? I can't be the only person who replaced their speedo because their old one was actually broken!

Thanks ahead for any help.
Find another bike with similar mileage and use it to program the new speedo. Maybe a friends bike. You need a good speedo to program the new speedo.
