Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I have run a few sets of woods cams in my bike throught its stages and they have always been noisy. I did have a woods lifter that failed at high rpm that started with a similiar situation (mine got louder the warmer it got) and then eventually collapsed. This just happened last week. Waiting to see if woods will warranty it, may run a set of s&s premiums next. Just a thought

1) So when it collapsed what happened?
2) Describe the noise & location before & after.
If you think it is a bad lifter pull pushrod covers and the bad liftervthe pushrod will be loose,I had a woods lifter go bad on my FM 107 called them they sent me another set fixed problem call FM they will work with you and they make things right great customer service
Hi folks.
This wasn't supposed to be a Fuel Moto bash on my part. I'm pretty comfortable with the motor at this point. Both the guy that put it together, and a second Indy shop have tested it and said its solid. I agree with the FM assessment from my original post sometime motors have a harmonic noise that transmits. Time will tell but I'm happy with the motor, just sounds different than what I've previously had.
The knocking noise is still a concern for me! I have heard 106's, 110's, and larger builds that don't have this knocking sound. If the knocking sound is an effect of CAM and engine combination, I am interested to know if changing to a cam other than woods (with the same characteristics of the woods 555 or 777) would resolve the issue.
I installed the woods 555 cam and lifter set from FM. It sounded great for about 1500 miles but now has developed a ticking noise that comes and goes. To the best of my knowledge it seems like a failing lifter because it comes and goes and sounds like one lifter. I'm gonna readjust pushrods and see if it helps.

Sounds like valve train harmonics to me.Does it happen at like 3000rpm than goes away above that or below that.
The knocking sound (like taping on a wooden block) in my engine occurs under load when I roll on the throttle. I don't hear it at idle, or when i reach crusing speed.
