Default Is my crankcase scrap metal?

91 fxrp only about 4000 miles on rebuild. Took it to a local shop to change it over to chain drive instead of belt. Apparently he didn't use any locktite anywhere the two bolts between the engine and transmission vibrated loose, all of the bolts holding the primary case to the engine backed out and the end result is the ring around the magnito that the o ring goes around broke almost all the way around.

And here is the ring. Could I just put a glob of permatex?

Not a rare occourence, unfortunately.

This also happens when mechanics (hackers) fail to properly align the engine/primary/transmission.

No, it's not scrap metal. And it does happen. You can have it repaired if you have the rest of the ring or you could just go to a belt drive.

Dan thanks for that I'll order income tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'll probably go belt drive.

we`ve repaired many over the years.we bore out the stock,cracked/broken ring & install a ductile iron ring,WAY stronger than stock,but the engine has to be totally dis assembled to repair

We use the same/same procedure here.
Prior to the advent of that design/repair, Gary Bang had a gasket-type kit that actually worked.
