A buddy of mine has a 2015 FLHXSE and is ready to wake it up some. He was thinking of just doing exhaust and tune. I am trying to talk him into different cams to go along with that so he would get a little more TQ response down low. He does quite a few long haul rides and does not want to make the bike less friendly going down the highway at 75mph. What are you guys seeing people do as a first step into waking up these 110's?
So you believe the stage 1 wakes them up enough? I was looking at the HD stage 3 kit for the 110 and it looks like a nice kit. Decent price and includes the tuner he is already going to need plus it bumps up his compression. The parts manager said if we decided we wanted to go a different route for the cams he could piece the kit together and do different cams.
First step would be typical Stage I upgrade. Complete new exhaust system like V&H Power Duals or Fullsac X-Pipe with Crusher or Crusher Mellows (if the dude likes quiet exhaust), hi-flow air filter, TTS Mastertune or Powervision and get it in the hands of a reputable tuner; probably good for 15HP. Ride it and if not satisfied then start looking at adding a cam or one of the HD kits. The Stage III kit you referenced, IMHO, is not a bad deal but whatever you do, do not let the dealer sell you a factory "flash" tune and do not let the dealer tune the motor; dealers just don't have a good track record when it comes to tuning.
I drove it a while got tired of the poor power
I hung around dealer watched some dyno work
I talked and spent time on forums with some good info
Here is what I came to conclusion
1 10.5 SE pistons 22502-07B
2 se585 cam shafts
3 Rinehart 4" mufflers
4 fuel-moto header
5 SERT race tuner
This should fix the weak power it has at the moment

Add TTS-100 cams along with the exhaust and then he can have it tuned. He will be shocked at the tq, 100ft lbs at about 1700 rpms. He won't want or need any thing else for performance. No HG change, no piston change, just cams , exhaust and a tune.
And another option is either an Andrews 48, or a Wood 222 cam set-up.
Both will really load torque in the low-mid.
Air cleaner, pipes, cam swap with a tune, and your friend will be surprised indeed.

As some noted a good exhaust & tune will make a big difference, and for those looking for more the CVO's benefit greatly from a cam swap and mild headwork. I have posted some typical examples below.
This dyno chart is a 2015 Twin Cooled CVO with an exhaust & tune
This example us a 2015 Twin Cooled CVO with exhaust, mild headwork, Wood TW-777 cams, & tune
Here is a 2016 Softail S 110" that we built this week, we did our Stage 1 CVO head service, installed Wood TW-777 cam, D&D Lowcat 2/1 and tuned it
We will stay on track here.
See post #8.
If you folks want to eyeball dyno charts, of a professionally WELL-PREPPED 107", take a peak at one we built years ago on Woods site.........141 hp.
Old news actually.
Gotta go now......
