Default 120r

Questions guys, close friend put a 120R in his 11ultra and broke it in riding about 4000 miles with a download from his 107.Said it was overly rich and wondering if he hurt it any.I dont think so but any advise is more than welcome,if anything I recommended he sea foam it to get rid of any carbon buildup.Dealer install and they didnt update his map, their excuse was no experience with his tuner (thundermax). After reading here about these engines I'm wondering about weakness in these engines and anything thats common failure. Thanks with anything you'all come up with.

What makes your friend think the new 120" motor is running rich on a map from a 107"? That motor needs a tune so your friend has a decision to make:

a. find a tuner that can tune with the TMax, which could be difficult.
b. purchase the auto tune feature for the TMax and learn how to use it.
c. remove the TMax and get a fuel management system that a local tuner can work with.

I suppose there is a fourth option which would be to continue riding a bike with a motor that is not tuned and keep his fingers crossed that nothing bad happens.

Weaknesses. I see plenty of 120R's for sale with wiped out camchests. Replace the lifters with some quality ones. Even some Comp cams lifters would be better than the ones that came in the motor

Didnt explain that very well,he had the engine installed in one part of the country after blowing up the 107,he then rode it home (7 states ,east to west) and had it re-tuned,thats when he discovered it was rich.
The lifter part has me a little concerned, but easily fixed anything else?

No, just the lifters and it should be good. I really wouldn't put them off too long.

he rode 4000 miles and needed a tuner to tell him it was too rich?? for one, riding that far straight thru isn't a good idea on a new motor (imo),second,he should have been doing a plug check every 100 miles or so (with the first being after about 20 miles).

Over-fueled condition can wash the cyl walls void of oil.
120R's have somewhat of a noteriety of sissoring the cranks as well.

Not To mention the New motor break in oil change schedule....I'm sure that motor is in real fine shape, eh dog?

He changed the oil at 250,600,1500,and 2500 also changed plugs once and naturally when it was retuned.According to his tuner it ran rich at 2200 to 3100 or so.Never missed a beat and didnt notice any gas in the oil but having it all done at dealers I question that a little. Not picking on dealers just a simple oil change isnt a high priority so whoever changes it may not pay close attention. He likes S&S so will tell him to get some lifters from them, any one in particular? thanks guys
