Default 110 bolt-on kit

Has anyone who has installed one of the 110" bolt on kits had any concerns over the piston to cylinder clearance? My Indy and I have opened two of the kits and he's going crazy over how tight the fit is. Any comments would be greatly appreciated....

That indy sounds like a drama queen.

While I in no way give these kits my endorsement in any way your indy needs to keep in mind the pistons are Mahle 4032 forgings which are set up relatively tight.

Both kits measured at .0004, and the Pistons would hardly fall through the cylinders. The specs call for close to 3x that clearance...seems we can't find anyone that will say anyway, they've measured before installation

The alloy composite of the aluminum will dictate the piston/wall fitment by the manufacturer.

A builder on another forum has installed about 12 sets of the new 4" drop in cylinder piston kits with good results. He is not a MoCo cheer leader but has been impressed with the kits; good numbers and happy owners. You have to remember, in addition to previous posts, that the liner is not longer cast iron but high strength steel. I am not a metallurgist but suspect that the MoCo has done the homework and the expansion factors as well as ring metallurgy has been "baked into the cake". Put it together and run it.

The only downside I can see with the cylinder is that if there is a problem with one, they cannot be bored and must be replaced.

Check out the attached video and watch Tony Nicosia, Senior Product Manager for SE Performance Products, drop one of these new cylinders on a ringed piston; he don't need no stinking ring compressor! WTF is your indy tech worried about anyway?

If I understand him correctly, he's concerned about an overheating condition that is more likely to occur due to not enough clearance and too much friction between the two. Especially during the break in period. He's also talked about cylinder and piston size changes as they change in temperature.

Thank you in advance for contributing to this thread, please excuse my ignorance, this is becoming a real education.

I read this again and now am curious where your tech found specs for this piston/cylinder setup? If using specs for typical forged pistons in a ductile iron lined cylinder, I am not sure that would be a valid basis on which to be concerned.
