Doesn't matter which cam you choose; both are similar in profile but I would choose the 37 over the 510. Have the shop rebuild your heads and set them up for the 37 cams. The S&S 79cc heads might be pushing the compression a bit on the high side for the 37s.

Ok, thanks. I think I'll probably keep the 510Gs for now and see how it performs I wasn't expecting having an issue with the heads but I guess with almost 90K on it, anything is possible. Thanks again.

Maybe not fubared, but was told they needed to be rebuilt. I haven't seen them since they called me Sat afternoon and shop is closed today. They said it would cost between 800 and 900 to rebuild them, parts and labor. For a little more, I would go with the screamin eagle heads , which are supposed to be ported and save time by not having to rebuild. Definitely gonna have them reworked when I can get some extra cash

Get a second opinion. Apparently the heads came off a running motorcycle. $800-$900 to "rebuild" a set of heads sounds a bit OTT to me. Get some good closeup photos and post them here; there are a couple of professionals that can take a look and give you an alternative and maybe save you some $$. The SE CNC heads are going to cost about $850 from an online discount dealer and they are not any better than a good "street" port from a competent shop which would be much cheaper.

I didn't get pics, but I did see the heads this morning. The valves were worn quite a bit and all valves and ports were pitted and quiet a bit of play in valves. I was told the heads needed to be machined and would need new valves .The bike was running but I will admit therew was a lot of noise from thev valve train.

I will have the heads reworked and have them ported and will put them on my softail standard when I do cams on it .

We have two forum sponsors, Scott/Hillside and Kirby/VeeTwin that could provide good counsel, deliver high performance heads and probably save you some $$ in the process. Think about it.

Default 97 inch s&s

I put this kit in my 05 Road king and I used a set of 96 " heads off a street glide . I wound up with 9.8 compression . You will need compression releases or easy start cams so plan on these in your build. These heads that I used are selling for about 300.00 used and they flow better than stock 88 heads . You will need the intake flanges that go with the heads . Just something to consider .

Another update. Got the bike back and put the first half 50 miles on it yesterday, then changed the oil. I was looking on the S&S website on breaking in the new engine and they recommended changing the oil again at 500 miles. My mechanic said I should change the oil again at 100 miles then again at 250 and 500. Are all these oil changes overkill, or should I change the oil that often on a new motor?
