Thanks, although technically lugging is described as working your engine "Hard" at low revs (or trying to) ...and I certainly don't do or expect that.

Anyone that drives has known this since the start and I've been driving/riding all sorts for 35+ years

Tootling around town or some back roads (ok so not technical terms) is not working the engine hard at all and these engines are more than capable of keeping the bike moving on less than 2k, just. the same as a car.

Having said that I appreciate that metrics revving up to 10k or whatever will probably do next to nothing at under 2k

edit... ah, found the thread again https://www.hdforums.com/forum/engin...for-a-57h.html it looks as if the consensus is 10:1 is the max to go
I'll be putting that to the test shortly. .10.34:1 on my 106 kit w/ 57h. I talked to a guy running similar on a 107 his tuner said he coulda gone higher.

The PV can just pull out whatever is loaded into the ECM as the "stock map", then you can save it or edit it to your heart's content.

The Delphi ECM only has one map slot, so the PV considers whatever is in the memory as fair game - you can just upload it to the PV and then edit on your computer.

By the way - if you do decide on headwork in the future, Alex at Fast Lane Headwork is your man. Then put the heads back on with a 0.030" Cometic MLS gasket to get your compression bump. If you join the HDRCGB (Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain), you even get a 10% discount....

My local tuning guru told me that a 103" with 57s set at 10.0-1 with headwork would make a great street motor.

FWIW, I just finished installing the 57H cams in my street glide (103) with a gutted stock header, Jackpot 4" mufflers and A/C. When i put the cams in, I started the bike using the FM Micro Tuner I had been using with the Stage 1 setup. It sounded OK, but didn't run well at all. Burbling, coughing and never really cleaned up until 3500 RPM's or so.

I took it to the dyno guy last week and he tuned it using PV building his own map. It starts easier, sounds much better and pulls harder throughout the curve. And it made 97hp/111 ft lbs after he was done.

I would certainly focus on getting the tune right and like others said, keep the RPM's up above 1700... Lugging these big v-twins isn't a good thing, no matter he cam or setup.

Agreed. Alex at Fastlane in the UK is saying that too so I'm going to go down that route ...just wondering when to do the work now (and pay for it, lol)

You are absolutely right ...that's probably THE bit that I'm really missing. Adm recommended Powerglides in the UK, any other recommendations at all?

Cheers All, been some really good advice here, really appreciate it

Keep your revs up a bit more. Even though you read (and can do) pull from x amount of revs in x gear, I find it's still better to down shift, I throw mine back a couple if I'm really going for it even though it has very good torque. Don't be scared to let them rev a bit !!
