VIN on engine doesn't match frame
Do you work as a CHP officer?
Have you actually swapped out your Harley motor for an aftermarket and done the California DMV paperwork?
You have ten days to process your paperwork, but the DMV says if you wait till after 10 days, you will have to pay a penalty.
It does not state that if you are late filing, your bike will be impounded.
One thing I have heard the CHP have a dim view on is guys who ride without getting their motorcycle license, especially bike CHP. I have heard that at their discretion, they can have your bike impounded if your license doesn't have the M1 designation. Basically, to them, you don't have a license, and aren't allowed by law to even drive a motorcycle.
I simply haven't gotten around to sending in my paperwork.
Our shop works on several law enforcement officers' personal bikes and they have told me directly that on the rare occasion that if they check engine numbers (hasn't happened to me in 20 plus years riding in California), and you haven't done the paperwork yet, simply show the officer your MSO with your name on it that matches the engine MSO on your bike, along with your current registration, and you should be fine.
They told me they want to know the parts on the bike are legit and match the paperwork and nothing appears to be stolen.
Now, frame VIN is another story, as your registration better match your frame VIN.
