Air cleaner
So I recently acquired a screaming eagle heavy breather for my Fat Boy S. I am installing a SE 585 cam, D &D Low cat 2 -1 exhaust and having head work done. The questions I have are; will the heavy breather even make a difference over the screaming eagle elite cleaner that came as stock in my bike? And if the heavy breather is an improvement why not put on an Arlen mess 90 degree velocity stack with a pre-filter installed in it? Does anybody have any before and after numbers that show the air cleaner actually is an improvement?

Any one of the hundreds of aftermarket air filters will flow more air than your engine can handle. The SE HB that you have will not make any more of a difference than the SE Elite unit will. It's more of an aesthetic thing.

On my 2013 RGC CVO it came stock with the Heavy breather air cleaner with the Teardrop cover shown below.
Having it tuned by Ed at the "Dyno Difference" he made the observation that with the Teardrop cover on the Heavy Breather AC that my bike lost 4-5 HP on the big end. I did not like the look of the Heavy Breather without the cover on it. Ed said the slash openings on the cover were not large enough to permit it to breathe right
We put a Kuryakin AC on it and it matched the Heavy breather output without the cover

Theres only one way to find out for your build....Dyno it with all of AC configs you are asking about. In the end the minuscule hp and tq difference that you see on your sheet, you probably will never feel while riding.
