Default Cam install problem

I'm in the middle of installing a set of Andrews 57h cams in my 2012 street glide. Everything has gone well until now. The original bolt that held in the gear for cam chain gear goes in about 4 turns and stops. I tried going a few more turns and pulling it out and it is making new threads. It almost seems like the threads are a different pitch. Was I supposed to get a new updated bolt? I searched the web and couldn't find any info. Any insight would be great.

Thanks!

it sounds like andrews sent you a cam with messed up threads or the bolt has messed up threads. i would inspect the bolt and make sure it threads into the stock cam fine. if the bolt is find i would contact andrews and see about getting a new cam sent to you. if you want try and fix it your self you can try running a thread chaser down it to straiten the threads out but that would not be the rout i would go.

Yeah, bolt goes into old cam without issue. I'm not chancing it. Ordered a new and am sending these back.

Harley's typically only uses about 4 different thread pitches. 20 tpi for coarse and 24 tpi for fine and a few others here and there. When working on a motor having a thread pitch gauge is really a cheap but valuable tool. Thread chasers are a necessity and a decent tap and die set is nice to have too.

New cams came today and bolts went in with out an issue. Fired it up tonight and it runs. I need to button some things up and then start tuning but at least it runs.
