Default Piston ring question

Do the screamin eagle forged pistons take a different ring set than the screamin eagle cast? Picked up some mint 95" forged pistons but not sure on the rings? Also what is best piston clearance to set the forged pistons at.

Harley has used cast rings, moly rings, etc., etc. Get a set of HD's titanium SST rings which is what is sold with their forged pistons. Set the pistons up at the manufacturers recommendation which is probably .0020"-.0030" and don't forget to check ring gap and adjust if necessary.

Do you have the part number for the rings by chance?

Would the standard rings for cast pistons 95" work or is that a bad idea?

Honestly, I don't know. There could be differences in ring groove dimensions between cast and forged pistons so I would be wary of using a ring pack for cast pistons on a forged pistons. I do not know the PN for the HD titanium SST rings but do know that the titanium ring is the ring HD uses with their forged pistons.

I don't know who makes rings for the MoCo but Hastings does make cast and SS rings for HD OEM pistons; suggest you give them a call and have your piston PN handy.

Yes; a bit on the high side but not much.

I was looking thru my Total Seal catalog and they list ring widths of 1.5 x 1.5 x 3.0mm for 88" TCs (3.75" bore including oversizes to .020"). A 3.875 bore has ring widths listed as 1.5 x 1.5 x 2.5mm ring widths.

I've been using Total Seal in my drag car for nearly 20 years. Gapless design on either the top or second ring. My leak-down readings are typically less than 2%. Sometimes a little less.

But they are pricey. I'll pay $160 for a set for a 4 cylinder (3.701" bore. Slightly smaller than HD)
