Default Warped rocker box

I pulled the rocker box off the rear cylinder of my 04 ultra to fix a oil leak. Following some advice I received on here I used some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper on a piece of glass to knock down any high spots. After quite a while of working at it I have worn through the chrome on two opposite corners, the front right and rear left. It is warped, it does not sit flat on the glass regardless of how I set it.

My question is; would there be a problem with working it until I have leveled it or should I just get a different one? I have done some quick googling and mostly found them on eBay which makes me nervous that I would end up with something no better than what I have. I did find some new, but they are not factory an I wonder how well they would match the front.

Thanks for any help

Nick

Struggled with a leaking rocker box cover on my Evo. After taking it on and off a few times I jus bit the bullet and ordered a new one from Ronnie. Price wasn't to bad, would stick with OEM parts.

It won't hurt anything to flatten out the cover the way you are doing it. However, did you check for flushness by setting it on the housing without the gasket? It may in fact fit flush as is. Heat can do some odd things.

I can do this in the morning. This is the second time in 3 years I've torn into this for the same leak, so I am sure there is an issue somewhere.

Set it on the head and it is definitely warped. Ordered a new one from the dealer. If nothing else I can be sure it is not the problem.

Thanks for the help
