Default Evo head question

I know that this topic has been discussed in the past but they are "years" old. At least the ones that I had located.
I am looking to increase the ability of my 97 softail to be in the 80+ range in both hp and torque. Currently it is stock except for the better intake and screamin eagle slip on exhaust. I do have a set of 16 gauge double barrels that I will be installing soon.

I am leaning towards headwork or different heads and woods W6 cam. With $ being a driving factor I was debating on just changing the cam , lifters, cam bearing, and adjustable (quick type- so I don't have to remove the rocker boxes) Then at a later time the heads. All the sites that I have been to are looking for $700-$1000 for a decent street port type. (I have not called anyone just looking at the sites) I have seen screamin eagle heads being offered for under $800. Boardtracker if I remember correctly.

Would waiting for headwork or swap till later be a bad idea or an issue at all?
Are the reworked heads that much better and worth the cost? (Considering that I could sell my stock heads)

Any input would be appreciated
Thanks
Ken

We have worked with that 6 cam, in 80" Evo's since Wood came to the V-Twin market back in the mid 1990's.
We have a very good set-up for the use of that cam.

Mid 90's with the use of a Wood 8, within reach.
Been there in that arena many times, and in certain cases much more yet.

your heads can easily get you in the 80+/80+ range.used many different cams over the years in EVO motors to achieve this
