Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
so a 125 / 125 110 bolt on kit one may want to add it to the list and the increased oil pump shall be a good thing
Thanks
I'm coming from building an engine. Starting with case, and going from there. When building up an existing engine. If plate is good. Run it. If needing a plate. I suggest S&S's. If customer really wants to upgrade. I suggest S&S's.
Same can go toward the 3 stage pump. Depends what the customer is looking for and what his expectations are. The SE $170 pump is hard to beat and will fit the needs for 70% of the people through my shop. If they are trying to get everything out of it. The 3 stage is a better pump. Add them together and you do get superior savaging and controllable pressure. The difference can be and I has been validated.
No "bushes" or bearings but bronze alloy bushings same as the SE billet plate. If you want bearings gotta go back to pre '07 cam plate.
S&S does make a cam plate set up for bearings so you can use early gear drive cams and chain driven cams... Uses late style pump tho. Picture cat is wrong but the instruction show the ball bearing cam plate.

The S&S plate is not billet. Let's you adjust oil pressure. Doesn't recirculate hot oil or induce air. Doesn't run a cam or pinion on parent material. My choice for higher output engines. Add the 3 stage pump and then there is more benefits that can be seen with back to back testing.
any link on that stage 3 pump? the fueling 'race' pump?
AFAIK, Dan Thayer built the original three stage pump and others have copied his design or re-branded his pump. It is a really nice piece of hardware that functions as it should.

Dan worked at S&S for a long time. The question is still. When did the 3 stage really come about? Did the R&D happen at S&S or in Dan's garage? I don't know the whole story and I'm sure most others don't either.
