Hey guys I'm looking into more info on the new M8 engines. I'm a local mechanic for ford and I was just wondering is there any where you can find the info needed for tear down and rebuild on this engine say timing and specs on things ? If so where could I find it ? Or is all that info stored away for harley dealers only

You can find that info in a Harley Factory Service Manual. It's available to anyone.

I've used a lot of service manuals from all kinds of manufactures and harley is definitely one of the better ones, all kinds of good data, but written simple enough for a novice tech as well. It's one thing Harley does right.

There is a bit of stuff not in the manual.. For instance ignition timing.. Also cam timing is not mentioned there.. You can get that info from 2 places.. The stock cam timing and SE cams are listed in the SE catalog for comparison.. Actual ignition timing is harder to find but you can download the SE tuners software and look at the ignition specs for stage 1 and above builds. This will give you some idea as to what timing is used. Things like head flow are give here and some of the performance websites.

SM is good for things like spring pressure, initial fit etc.

I should add there are things still not common knowledge that I've not seen.

1. Case deck height.

2. Crankpin diameter.

3. Rod length.

I'm sure cylinder height is known as is piston CH.

I agree that Harley's service manuals are very good. I usually get a new service manual before I even get the new bike. Too bad they are not as good as they used to be. You can see as you use the manual the difference is for economic reasons. I would rather pay more to get a manual that would be as good as their old service manuals.
