Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Just recently built the motor on my 2001 fxdx with a tc88. Went to 98ci, ported heads, forged cp pistons, cams, bla bla bla. Made 98hp/115tq.
Since the build i have put about 1400 miles on the bike. I was going over some pictures from when i was assembling the motor, and saw what appears to be cracks in the case near the cam bearings.
How bad does this look? I've never built one of these motors, and don't know how I missed it when it was apart. Something to be freaked out about? Because it's making me nervous!
Yep- I've seen that quite a few times over the years. None of them were actual cracks. I split the cases, and remove the bearings on the first one, so I could sand it down for welding- once sanded, the "crack" dissapeared-

Curious.. How do you draw on you uploaded pics? I would appreciate a little help... Thanx
I'm using a galaxy s8 phone. I have the picture on my phone, went to the picture editor, circled the area, and re uploaded the picture. If on a computer you can do the same thing with Microsoft paint or something similar.
