Default A little help needed

This is my first post on the site and I am fairly new Harley owner. I am looking for a little info from you more experienced owners. I bought a 2008 FLHT used last year. The prior owner said it had a 110 kit and it ran very well. It was said to be built by a local (to the prior owner) shop. Not local to me. The bike had 7600 miles when I bought it. It ran great until about 10k when it started using a little oil and smoking a bit from the left side(true duals). Having raced motocross and plenty experience building car engines I decided to tear it down and fix it. The rear piston looked like someone rhino lined the top of it. The rear piston was also installed backwards. Front jug and head look great. I dropped both heads off at my local trusted machine shop yesterday to be checked. It looks like a bad valve guide on the rear head allowing oil to seep past it. My question is am I thinking right in honing the jugs, new rings, heads checked and repaired and putting it back together? Also if someone can tell me exactly what I have by the numbers from the jugs and pistons so I know which rings to buy. Any info is great and I appritiate it! The jugs are S&S 91-7088-S. Pistons are stamped 2052A and 106-3687A. The jug bore was 3.915 and 3.917. Thanks again!

I think I would try to talk to S&S and see what they say. Chances are they will know exactly what you need. Or at least hit up there web site. JMO

If your machinist has torque plates have him check piston to cylinder fitment and if within spec, clean up the piston, install properly and reuse it. If the fitment is out of speck, you are most likely going to have to purchase another cylinder and piston kit from S&S as I don't think the 110 S&S cylinder can be bored; not sure but you should check with S&S on that as well as find out what ring pack you will need. If the machinist does not have a set of torque plates, you can Goggle and purchase a set or the machinist can fabricate a set; it would be worthwhile considering the situation since you need to know if you can reuse the piston and cylinder. A quick pass with a hone to remove any glaze would be appropriate but the operative word is "quick" since honing will remove cylinder wall material. If the front head and jug looked great; leave it alone.
