Default Smoke from right pipe

i apologize up front, this may be long winded but I want to give all the details. I have a 2013 Street Glide I bought used. Currently has 10,000 miles on it. Early this year I started hearing a ticking coming from the engine. Brought it in to two different dealers. One said nothing abnormal, the other said it sounded like a lifter. They suggested changing oil to a conventional oil. I replaced the oil that only had about 200 miles on it and the ticking was still there. I decided to take a ride the other evening to the 115th anniversary in Milwaukee. It’s only a 35 mile ride for me. When I got to the rally a guy pulls up along side me and tells me I’m smoking what looks and smells like oil out of just my right pipe. Temps were low 70’s, so not too hot. On the ride home the bike seemed to run a little rougher than normal and the ticking was much worse. The ticking sounds like it’s coming from the left side of the bike now that it’s more pronounced. I’m at a loss! I assume my best bet is to get it in and have it thoroughly checked out. Anyone here know of anything similar?

Uses a stethoscope (Harbour Freight $5.00) to pinpoint the exact tick. Add a signature line similar to my bike line and any modifications to bike. You do not provide enough details for a experienced person to give a suggestion. You will get pleanty from out of someone's *** if you want that.
Is you exhaust factory enough that it still has a crossover? Is there a tuner.
If you know how and have tools, get two new plugs and replace thoes in there. Keep old seperate, take pictures of them and post on here.
Be nice if you can borrow a compression Gage from Auto Zone and do a compression test . Do it warm, throttle held open or blocked open if throttle is electrical. Ground sparkplugs and remove fuel pump fuse. Report compression .

And welcome from Hampton Roads Virginia..

My first guess is a failed lifter. Compression test is a good place to start. That should tell you which cylinder it’s on. From there pull the pushrod covers, bike off the ground, in gear spark plugs removed, you should be able to turn over the engine . Watch for lift movement or lack of on the pushrods.

What mods are on the bike (e.g. exhaust, tuner, cams, etc.)? Nice 1st post, but not alot to go with here...

Also, FWIW, your Right pipe will smoke/expel more b/c it's the path of least resistance for these 2-1-2 exhausts...if that's what's on your bike (we don't know).

Good points. I meant to add specs of bike but rambled on too long. Everything is stock except the exhaust which is a Vance and Hines true dual. I like the stethoscope idea. I used the old trick of placing a wooden stick in different locations and pressed my ear to the stick. But that was early on in the ticking. That didn’t tell me anything.

Two ear stethscope isolates your ears from all that racket out the exhaust which does make odd noise other then racket. Most areas will be just a smooth hum. Unlike a car motor with sleeve bearings, a Harley metal to metal rollers with some clearance makes a different noise. None very loud. An actual valve tick is noticeable in the head area or lifter covers. Some is normal.
